Research interests & areas of expertise

I am an experienced ethologist and specialist in exotic animal behaviour and welfare studies and have undertaken consultancy for zoological collections. I am a Member of the Royal Society of Biology, a Professional Member of BIAZA, a Member of the BIAZA Research Committee and an External Advisor for the EAZA Animal Welfare Working Group.

My areas of expertise and interest focus on:

• Understanding the effect of zoos (or other managed environments) on animal behaviour and welfare
• Assessing animal welfare and identifying mitigation efforts to ensure positive welfare in zoo-housed or other managed exotic animals
• Using citizen science within zoos
• Applied animal conservation
